Company History

In the early summer of 2006 somewhere between 20 and 25 University of Washington recent graduates, soon to be graduates, and current students came together to begin a new theatre and film company, Emerald City Scene. To this date ECS has produced “No Exit,” “Internal Monologue,” “Desdemona,” and “Copenhagen.” Emerald City Scene also shot their first film, “The Perception Suite” last summer and hopes to release it this summer. We have applied for our 501(c)3 non-profit status, and would like to thank the many community members who have contributed their support and resources to the Scene thus far.

Mission Statement

We believe that an audience member should always leave the theatre changed. Our plays and our films seek to provide environments in which the spectator is not merely allowed to observe, but is compelled to experience. As university-trained performance artists, we have extensively studied the connection between what is produced and what is perceived. Mere entertainment is no longer enough; we now strive to affect. If theatre and cinema can open minds and improve communities, then it is our goal to find out how.
